This is the SocialPetCare.com Privacy Policy. Every wagging tail, curious cat, and first-time foster parent in our community brought their person along with them — and their person’s data matters to us just as much as the pet-care tips we share. Below, we explain in plain language what we collect when you read our guides, join a conversation, sign up for our newsletter, or click through to a product we recommend, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

1. Introduction & Who Controls Your Data
SocialPetCare.com (referred to here as “SocialPetCare,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) publishes pet care guides, hosts a community space where pet owners swap advice and photos, and recommends products that have earned a place in our own homes. For the purposes of data protection law, SocialPetCare.com is the data controller responsible for deciding how and why your personal information is processed in connection with the website, our newsletter, and our community features.
We built this platform on the idea that pet parents make better decisions when they’re well-informed and supported by people who get it. That same philosophy shapes how we treat the details you share with us — about yourself, and about the four-legged (or feathered, or scaled) family member who brought you here.
This policy applies to socialpetcare.com, our email newsletter, and any community tools we offer. It does not apply to third-party sites you may reach by clicking a link from our content, including Amazon.com, which maintains its own privacy notice.
2. Information We Collect
Information You Give Us Directly
Some information only exists because you chose to share it with us:
- Contact details — your name and email address, typically provided when you subscribe to our newsletter, leave a comment, or reach out with a question.
- Account details — if you register for a community profile, this may include a username, a securely hashed password, and an optional avatar or bio.
- Pet details — anything you tell us about your animal companions, such as a pet’s name, species, breed, age, or notes about their health or behavior that you choose to include in a comment, profile, or message to us.
- Community content — comments, forum posts, replies to other members, and any photos of your pets you upload to share with the community.
- Correspondence — anything you send us directly, including support requests or feedback.
Information Collected Automatically
Other information is generated simply by visiting the site:
- Device and connection data — your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, and the page that referred you to us.
- Usage data — which articles you read, how long you spend on a page, links you click, and general navigation patterns, gathered through analytics tools (for example, Google Analytics, if enabled on our site).
- Cookies and similar technologies — small files placed on your device that support core site functionality, help us understand how our content performs, and, in some cases, support the advertising described in Section 4.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive categories of personal data (such as government ID numbers or financial account details) through the site, and we ask that you avoid including that kind of information about yourself in public comments.
3. How We Use Your Information
We put your information to work in a handful of specific ways, each with a legal basis under data protection laws like the GDPR:
- To run and improve the site — publishing, testing, and refining our pet care content so it’s more useful to readers like you. (Legal basis: legitimate interest.)
- To personalize your experience — for example, surfacing breed-specific guides or content related to topics you’ve previously engaged with. (Legal basis: legitimate interest.)
- To send newsletters and community updates — only to people who have opted in, and only until you unsubscribe. (Legal basis: consent.)
- To operate community features — displaying your comments and pet photos, moderating discussions, and enforcing our community guidelines. (Legal basis: performance of our agreement with you under our Terms and Conditions.)
- To respond to you — answering questions or support requests you send us. (Legal basis: legitimate interest / contract.)
- To serve and measure advertising — including ads delivered through Google AdSense and the tracking used to attribute Amazon Associates purchases, described fully in Sections 4 and 5. (Legal basis: consent, where required by law, or legitimate interest elsewhere.)
- To meet legal obligations — such as responding to a lawful request from a regulator or public authority.
4. Cookies
Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to hold onto, so the site can recognize that browser again later — the same way a hostess remembers you take your coffee black. Some of ours are essential to basic functionality; others help us understand our readers or support the advertising that keeps our pet care content free.
Categories of Cookies We Use
- Strictly necessary — required for core functions like page navigation and, if applicable, keeping you signed in to a community account.
- Functional — remember preferences, such as a display setting you’ve chosen.
- Analytics/performance — help us understand which articles resonate and where readers run into trouble.
- Advertising — support the ad networks described below, including frequency capping and ad relevance.
Cookies
SocialPetCare.com displays advertising served through Google AdSense and, potentially, other Google advertising products. In line with Google’s own publisher disclosure requirements: third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a visitor’s prior visits to socialpetcare.com or to other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads to our visitors based on their visit to our site and other sites across the internet.
Your opt-out options: You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also manage preferences with other participating ad networks through the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page or the Digital Advertising Alliance’s consumer choice tool. For more detail on how Google’s advertising cookies work, see Google’s own explanation of how information is used from sites that use Google’s services.
For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on a consent management tool to ask for your permission before non-essential advertising cookies are set, consistent with Google’s EU User Consent Policy. You can change your preferences at any time through that tool or through your browser settings.
Managing Cookies in Your Browser
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings menu. If you do, some parts of socialpetcare.com — including staying signed in or seeing certain personalized content — may not work as smoothly.
5. Third-Party Tracking
As described fully in our Terms and Conditions, socialpetcare.com participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. From a data perspective, here’s what that means: when you click a product link, button, or image on our site that leads to Amazon.com, a tracking cookie or pixel operated by Amazon (not by us) records that your visit originated from socialpetcare.com. If you go on to make a qualifying purchase, Amazon attributes that sale to us and pays a commission — at no additional cost to you.
We do not receive your Amazon password, payment details, shipping address, or full order history. We may receive aggregated, anonymized reporting — for example, that a particular article generated a certain number of referred purchases — which we use to understand which content is genuinely useful to readers.
Once you leave socialpetcare.com and land on Amazon.com (or any other retailer we may link to in the future), your activity there is governed entirely by that retailer’s own privacy notice, not this one. We encourage you to review Amazon’s privacy notice directly if you have questions about their data practices.
6. Data Retention & Security
We keep personal information only for as long as it serves the purposes described in this policy, or as long as the law requires. In practice, that generally looks like:
| Type of data | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Newsletter contact details | Until you unsubscribe, plus a short administrative window to process that request |
| Community account & comments | While your account remains active, or until you request deletion |
| Server & analytics logs | A limited rolling period, after which data is aggregated or deleted |
| Support correspondence | As long as needed to resolve your inquiry and meet recordkeeping obligations |
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect the information we hold, including encrypting data in transit (HTTPS/TLS), limiting employee access to what’s needed to do their jobs, and reviewing our practices periodically. That said, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Privacy Rights (GDPR, CCPA & More)
If You’re in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland
Under the GDPR and UK GDPR, you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate data; request erasure (the “right to be forgotten”); restrict or object to certain processing; receive a copy of your data in a portable format; withdraw consent at any time where processing relies on consent; and lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
If You’re a California Resident
Under the CCPA, as amended by the CPRA, you have the right to: know what personal information we’ve collected about you and why; request deletion of that information; request correction of inaccurate information; opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information; and limit the use of any sensitive personal information. We do not sell personal information for money. If you send an opt-out preference signal, such as Global Privacy Control, through a supporting browser, we treat that as a valid request and will display confirmation that it has been honored. Exercising any of these rights will never result in discriminatory treatment.
Other U.S. States
If you live in a state with its own comprehensive privacy law, you may have similar rights to those described above. Use the contact details below to make a request, and we’ll route it appropriately.
How to Exercise Your Rights
Email us at team@socialpetcare.com with the right you’d like to exercise. We may ask for information to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we aim to respond within 30 days (or within any shorter or longer period required by applicable law).
8. Children’s Privacy
SocialPetCare.com is a general-audience site built for adult pet owners, and our content is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If we ever learn that we’ve inadvertently collected such information — for instance, through a comment or an uploaded photo — we will delete it promptly.
If you’re a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at team@socialpetcare.com so we can investigate and remove it. This approach is consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), including the FTC’s amended COPPA Rule.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as our site, our features, or the law evolves. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page, and where a change is material, we’ll make reasonable efforts to let our community know, such as through a site notice or newsletter mention. We encourage you to revisit this page occasionally.
